How-To Configure DNS for CDN/WAF with Your Provider

This tutorial will walk you through the basics of connecting your domain to the StackPath CDN with the DNS provider you use to manage your DNS records.

DNS must be properly configured in order for your domain traffic to be routed through the CDN. The methods below apply to either static content or full-site content delivery, using a CNAME record in your DNS manager.

Select Your DNS Provider

123reg DNS
  1. Log in to your 123-reg control panel
  2. Have a look in the Domains section.
  3. Select your domain name using the drop-down menu and then click on the Manage button.
  4. In the advanced domain settings menu, click Manage DNS.
  5. Now click on the Advanced DNS tab.
  6. Using the drop-down menu, select CNAME.
  7. In the hostname field enter CDN ( or WWW for full site cache). In the Destination CNAME field enter your Edge Address ( foo-bar.stackapthdns.com). Once you’ve entered the details click Add.
1&1 DNS
  1. Log in to your account at https://admin.1and1.com
  2. If you have only one package, you will land on the Administration page. Proceed to step 4.
  3. If you have more than one package, select the package with the domain you're trying to verify. The Administration page for the specified domain appears.
  4. Under Domains & Web Space, click Domain Center. The Domain Overview page appears.
  5. Select the box to the left of the domain you would like to verify. A blue check will appear.
  6. From the New drop-down menu, select Create Subdomain.
  7. Enter the following code [TOKEN] in lowercase letters, and click OK.
  8. Press the yellow + symbol next to Subdomain Overview.
  9. Check the box next to the subdomain. The subdomain should now read token_code.yourdomain.com.
  10. Click the Subdomain Settings button, and select Edit DNS settings in the drop-down menu.
  11. Click the radio button next to CNAME.
  12. Next to the Alias, enter [TOKEN] in lowercase letters.
  13. Click OK.
Amazon Route53
  1. Click OK.
Blacknight DNS
  1. Sign in to your account at cp.blacknight.com
  2. Click Registered Domains.    
  3. Select Manage DNS for the domain you are trying to verify.
  4. Click the DNS tab.
  5. Click the DNS Records tab.
  6. Select Add New DNS Record.
  7. In the pulldown menu for DNS Record Type, select CNAME.
  8. Enter your CNAME in the field marked Domain.
  9. Enter the address you wish the CNAME to point to in the field marked Canonical Name.
  10. Click Finish.
Bluehost DNS
  1. Log into your Bluehost Hosting Account.
  2. Select the DNS Zone Editor icon in the Domains section.
  3. Select the domain you're modifying from the drop-down box.
  4. Scroll down to the heading named Add DNS Record.
  5. In the Host Record field, enter the desired record name.
  6. Leave the TTL field at its default setting.
  7. Select CNAME, from the drop-down labeled Type.
  8. In the Points To field, enter the address that the record should resolve to.
  9. Other fields may appear depending on the type of record you are creating.
  10. Click on the Add Record button to create the record.
Cloudflare DNS
  1. Login to your Cloudflare account.
  2. From the drop-down menu on the top left, select your domain.
  3. Select the DNS settings tab.
  4. Add the CNAME records. In the first field enter the subdomain you want to use (example CDN) and in the second field enter your Edge Address (foo-bar.stackpathdns.com). Example if you want to point blog subdomain to domain.com
ClouDNS
  1. Go to your Control Panel and click on “Add new record”. 
  2. Type the following:
    Type: CNAME
    TTL: 1 Hour
    Host: example (www.hostname.com)
    Points to: Edge Address (ex. foo-bar.stackpathdns.com)
DNS Made Easy
  1. Select the DNS Menu.
  2. Select Managed DNS.
  3. Select a domain from the either the “Recently Updated Domains” box, or start typing the domain name in the textbox on the “Select Domain” tab.
  4. Under “CNAME Records” click the plus sign to add a new record.
  5. We will add a CNAME record to the domain example.com for www.example.com which maps to the root record of the domain name. To alias to the root record of the domain name, you leave the data value blank.
  6. Click Submit.
DNS Park
  1. Log in to your account at DNS Park.
  2. On the left side, click DNS Hosting.
  3. Click the domain you'd like to use with G Suite.
  4. Since DNS Park is your hosting service and not your domain registrar, be sure that your domain points to DNS Park's nameservers. This will allow your CNAME record configuration to take effect.
  5. Click Alias Records.
  6. Include the CNAME record value associated with your use with the name in the Host Name field and the value in the Destination Name field.
  7. Click Add Alias.
DYN DNS
  1. Log in to your Dyn account, locate the My Services option.
  2. Locate the Zone you wish to add a record to, and click on Dyn Standard DNS Service to the right of the zone’s name.
  3. When you click the “Add Alias (CNAME)” button, a new box will come up prompting for Hostname, and Alias To. The hostname must be populated in order for a CNAME to be created. Populate these fields with the appropriate information, then press Create Record. If you are unsure of what goes in these fields.
Easy DNS
  1. Log into your easyDNS account.
  2. Click on the DNS link for the domain (this will bring you to the DNS SETTINGS page).
  3. Click on either STREAMLINED EDITOR or MODULAR EDITOR (recommended).
  4. Click on the green wrench tool for the DNS record type you are trying to create.
eNom DNS
  1. Log in to your account at www.enom.com.
  2. From the drop-down menu at the Domains tab, select My Domain. You'll be directed to the Manage Domains page.
  3. Click the domain that you'd like to use with G Suite.
  4. Click Host Settings.
  5. To add a CNAME record, click NEW ROW. If you've already created a CNAME record for the address, simply edit the existing CNAME record.
  6. Enter your CNAME record.
  7. As the hostname, enter your Edge Address (ex. foo-bar.stackpathdns.com).
  8. Click Save.
EuroDNS
  1. Log in to your account at eurodns.com.
  2. Click My Domains in the My Domains menu on the left side of the page. A table listing your domains should appear.
  3. Click the DNS column on the row of the domain you wish to change. The DNS records for your domain should now be displayed. Enter your CNAME record using the examples listed in the CNAME record values table.
  4. From the Add... drop-down menu of the HOSTNAME table, choose Host Alias, and click the Add button next to it.
  5. In the Alias: field, add your custom domain. For example, if you chose cdn.mydomain.com as your address, enter CDN.
  6. In the Host Name: field, add Edge Address (ex. foo-bar.stackpathdns.com).
  7. Click the Save Settings button.
EveryDNS
  1. Log in to your account at EveryDNS.net.
  2. On the left side, click the domain you'd like to use with G Suite for Your Domain.
  3. Since EveryDNS.net is your hosting service and not your domain registrar, be sure that your domain points to EveryDNS.net's nameservers. This will allow your CNAME record configuration to take effect.
  4. Below Add a Record:, you can create your CNAME record.
  5. Include the CNAME record value associated with your use with the name in the Fully Qualified Domain Name field and the value in the Record Value field.
  6. Select CNAME as the Record Type.
  7. Click Add Record.
Gandi.net DNS
  1. Log in to your account at gandi.net.
  2. Click the Administration tab, and then click the control panel link.
  3. Click the domain you want to manage, and go to Technical Settings.
  4. Click Manage DNS zone file.
  5. Enter your CNAME record using the guidelines listed below
    Name: Enter your custom URL prefix (such as CDN or www).
    Type: Select CNAME.
    Value: Enter Edge Address (ex. foo-bar.stackpathdns.com.), making sure to include a trailing dot (.) at the end of the value.
  6. Click Submit.
  7. You should be back to the list of entries. Click Submit Changes.
GoDaddy DNS 
  1. Log in to your GoDaddy account.
  2. On your product list next to Domains, click the plus sign button to expand the list.
  3. Next, to the domain you want to manage, under the Action section, click on the Manage DNS button.
  4. At the bottom of the Records section, click Add and select CNAME from the drop-down list.
  5. Complete the other fields:
    Host - Enter the subdomain name for the alias assignment. For example, type www. The subdomain can include a period (.) but not as the first or last character. Consecutive periods (...) are not allowed. A subdomain cannot exceed 25 characters.
    Points to - Enter the hostname you want the alias to point to. For example, type @ to map the alias directly to your domain name. 
    TTL - Select how long the server should cache the information.
  6. Click Save.
Hover DNS
  1. Sign into your account at https://www.hover.com/login
  2. Select the domain.
  3. Go to the DNS tab.
  4. Click Add Record.
  5. Select CNAME from the pulldown menu.
  6. Enter your CNAME record
    For example, to direct www.mydomain.com to your CDN, enter www in the Hostname field and Edge Address in the Target Host field.
  7. Click Save.
IX Web Hosting DNS
  1. Log in to your account at ix web hosting.
  2. Click Manage below the Hosting Account section.
  3. On the left side, click the domain you'd like to use with G Suite.
  4. Next to DNS Configuration, click EDIT.
  5. Click Add DNS CNAME Record.
  6. Include the CNAME record value associated with your use with the name in the Name field and the value in the Data field.
  7. Click Submit.
MyDomain.com DNS
  1. Log in to your account for your domain at www.mydomain.com/
  2. Click on the My Services tab.
  3. Under Manage My Services, click on Manage Services.
  4. Go to Domain Overview.
  5. Click on Domain Administration.
  6. Select the domain you're using with G Suite.
  7. Click the DNS tab, and select DNS Records.
  8. Click Add New DNS record.
  9. From the drop-down menu, select CNAME, and click Next.
  10. Include the CNAME record value associated with your use.
  11. Click Finish.
myhosting.com DNS
  1. Log in to your account for your domain at http://myhosting.com.
  2. Go to http://myhosting.com.
  3. Click on the Account link at the top of the page.
  4. Log in with your Domain Name and Password.
  5. Click on the Domain Name tab.
  6. Click DNS Management in the left-hand pane.
  7. Click the Manage DNS button.
  8. Add an Alias (CNAME) record and include the value associated with your use.
  9. Click Save.
Namecheap DNS
  1. Log in to your account at www.namecheap.com.
  2. Go to My Account > Manage Domains and choose the needed domain name from the domain list.
  3. Select All host records.
  4. Include the CNAME record value that will point to your Edge Address.
  5. Click Save and you are done.
Network Solutions DNS
  1. Go to www.networksolutions.com and click Manage Account.
  2. Enter your user ID and password, select Manage All Services from the pulldown menu, and click Login.
  3. Click Manage Domain Names.
  4. Select the domain name to receive new DNS records and click Manage.
  5. Click Change Where Domain Points.
  6. Click Advanced DNS.
  7. Under the Host Aliases (CNAME Records) heading, click Add/Edit.
  8. Enter your CNAME records, depending on the type of CNAME records you are creating.
  9. Select the radio button to the left of the Other Host box.
  10. In the Other Host field, enter the corresponding Value/Answer/Destination from the same CNAME record values table.
  11. Click Continue.
  12. Review your changes and click Save Changes to create the CNAME record.
No-IP DNS
  1. Log in to your account at No-IP.
  2. On the left side, click Host/Redirects.
  3. Click Manage underneath Host/Redirects.
  4. Click Add for a new entry, or click Modify and skip to step six for an existing entry.
  5. Include the CNAME record value associated with your use with the name as the hostname and the value in the Target Host field.
  6. Select DNS alias CNAME at the host type.
  7. Click Modify.
Register.com DNS
  1. Log in to your account at register.com  
  2. Under the My Accounts tab, click the domain that you're using with G Suite  
  3. Scroll down to the Advanced Technical Settings heading, and click Edit Domain Aliases Records  
  4. In the first field, enter the Name/Host/Alias from the CNAME record values table, depending on the type of CNAME record you are creating.
  5. In the second field, enter the corresponding Value/Answer/Destination from the same CNAME record values table.
  6. Click Continue  
  7. Review your changes, and click Continue to create the CNAME record.
Registo.br DNS
  1. Log in to your account for your domain at registro.br.
  2. Select the domain name to receive the new DNS record.
  3. Click Save and Edit DNS.
  4. Click + Record.
  5. From the pulldown menu, select CNAME.
  6. In the first field, enter the Name/Host/Alias, depending on the type of CNAME record you are creating.
  7. In the second field, Dados, enter the Edge Address.
  8. Click Save.
Terra Domínio DNS
  1. Log in to the main email account for the domain.
  2. Write a message to suporte.empresas@terra.com.br requesting creation of a new CNAME record or update to an existing record.
  3. Add to the message the company’s C.N.P.J. (Cadastro Nacional da Pessoa Jurídica).
  4. Include the CNAME record value associated with your use.
  5. Send the message and await a response.
Upperlink DNS
  1. Log in to your account at dns.upperlink.com.ng.
  2. From the Domain list, click on Manage Domain DNS for the domain name you want to modify or add CNAME records.
  3. If the custom CNAME record that you want to add exists, please remove it first.
    The CNAME will appear as customcname.yourdomain.com. under the Zone Name field. For example, a custom CNAME like CDN for a domain name like mydomain.com, it will appear as cdn.mydomain.com. under the Zone Name field.
  4. Enter the following information:
    Under Zone Name fields change the default value to your custom CNAME (e.g. www, CDN, site etc).
    Under Zone Type select CNAME from the drop down.
    Under Zone Value enter your Edge Address.
    In the content field, Enter your Edge Address.
  5. Click Save.
Yahoo!SmallBusiness DNS
  1. Log in to your account at smallbusiness.yahoo.com.
  2. Click Domain Control Panel below the domain you'd like to use with G Suite.
  3. Click Manage Advanced DNS Settings.
  4. Click Add Record.
  5. Include the CNAME record value associated with your use with the name in the Source field and the value in the Destination field.
  6. Click Submit.
ZoneEdit DNS
  1. Log in to your ZoneEdit account at http://www.zoneedit.com.
  2. Click on the name of the domain name you like to add a CNAME record.
  3. Click Aliases (CNAME).
  4. Include the CNAME record value associated with your use.
  5. Save your changes.
